Casey Curtis Tennis Academy Visits Beautiful North Bay

Updated: Oct 9, 2019

On the weekend of October 4’th-6’th several players from the CCTA along with Coach Casey and Coach Tami Curtis journeyed to North Bay to spend some time with the local tennis community. The weekend was filled with many wonderful and rewarding moments.

On Friday evening a banquet was held with nearly 100 North Bay tennis enthusiasts. Each of the CCTA players took to the microphone to express their goals and experience in tennis. Some shared their tennis journey, speaking about when they first started playing tennis and how they arrived at CCTA. Others spoke about the ups and downs of being a competitive player, their challenges, stumbles and triumphs. Some who have joined CCTA recently spoke about what they had learned so far. The improvements they had been able to make in their first few months and their goals for the future.

The night wrapped up with a question/answer session with Coach Curtis where he was asked about his coaching history, his experience coaching a soon to be pro tennis and his philosophies on the game as a whole.

Saturday morning the CCTA players and Coaches led several group clinics with local children using green dot and orange dot balls- The level of talent and skill shown by all of the children was tremendous- and is a tribute to the tremendous Coaching of local tennis Coach Fransua Rachmann. Our players loved the opportunity to help teach the young up-and-comers, helping to re-enforce many of the fundamentals that Coach Casey had once taught them.

Next up was a typical drill session with the CCTA players demonstrating the type of daily training taking place at CCTA. We ran through a variety of Coach Curtis’ favourite drills, each one showcasing different skills that players were encouraged to work on later.

Last but not least, we couldn’t forget the parents and other adult players. Many of them had brought their own kids and were itching to show off their own tennis prowess- So naturally, we held a Pro-Am to close off the trip!

Traveling to North Bay was an unforgettable experience for everyone at CCTA. As for our players in particular, they learned that the tennis community isn’t defined by where we live. Everyone who enjoys tennis, be it recreational or high performance, young or old, is part of the tennis community and to help give back to that community is an incredible privilege for any tennis player.

Can’t wait for our next North Bay Visit. What a beautiful city and a wonderful tennis community.
